BRAND DRUG SUBSTANCE PRESENTATION
The usual daily dose is 2 g divided into 500 mg doses every 6 hours, or 1 g every 12 hours. Each dose must be administered over at least a 60-minute period.
The total daily dose based on 40 mg/kg may be administered in fractionated doses and added to the child's requirement of fluids over 24 hours. Each dose must be administered over at least a 60-minute period.
The daily IV dose may be lower. A 15 mg/kg starting dose followed by a 10 mg/kg dose every 12 hours is recommended for the first week of life, and every 8 hours onwards until the month of life. It may be administered orally if the Clostridium difficile germ, which is an emerging bacteria in intestinal disbacteriosis associated with prolonged treatment with antibiotics, is present.
Mild-moderate Infections: A single IV dose of 400 mg, followed by a 200 mg dose per day administered IV or IM. Severe Infections: 400 mg IV every 12 hours for 1-4 days. In the following days, the dose must be 400 mg. per day.
It is administered as an IV injection. The recommended dose is 0.3 to 0.6 mg/kg. This dose provides a 15 to 35 minute relaxation. The complete blockage may continue with complementary doses of 0.1 to 0.2 mg/kg based on the requirement.
The dose for children older than 1 month of age is similar to that of the adults on the basis of mg/kg.
